Earthquakes And Volcanoes - Dr Robert Muir Wood

You are viewing Earthquakes And Volcanoes – Causes, Effects And Predictions by Dr Robert Muir Wood. This book is in excellent read condition with no cover creases, tears, rips, stains, page creases or other damage. However, it does have a name written in pen on the inside front hardback. Supplied in a plastic book cover courtesy of the seller.

This book is divided into two sections: Earthquakes and Volcanoes. As you can see from the photographs (these are scanned images of the book for sale and not stock photographs), I have taken one of the front cover, the back cover, the black and white photograph is from the Earthquakes section of the book and the colour photograph is from the Volcanoes section of the book. For the size of this book (information below) it is filled with very in-depth information on events in history on both earthquakes and volcanoes; what each is, how they occur, predictions and preventions. The book also contains a lot of fantastic photographs in both black and white and colour as well as diagrams. There is a fantastic colour photograph of Mt St Helens (Washington State, USA) erupting from the side in its May 1980 eruption. This is a very informative book in a good compact size.

Synopsis
The most terrifying and destructive of Earth’s natural forces, volcanoes and earthquakes are at last beginning to be understood by scientists. We now know how and why seismic activity happens. But can we say where it will happen next, and when?

In this timely, informative and spectacularly illustrated handbook, a leading earthquake consultant provides the latest knowledge about earthquake prediction, damage containment and future prospects, as well as the possible exploitation of a vast energy resource.

From California’s San Andreas Fault to the huge volcanoes of Indonesia, scientists have established that almost all seismic activity takes place along the shifting plates of the Earth’s surface – although “rogue” earthquakes may occur within plates. Earthquakes and Volcanoes presents, for the first time, detailed maps showing “seismic gap” areas where the next convulsions are going to occur. It also shows how sensible policies can reduce damage substantially.
